One of India's highest research honours: IIT Roorkee professor Sunil Bajpai receives the prestigious J.C. Bose Grant
Sunil Bajpai honoured with J.C. Bose Grant for outstanding research contributions at IIT Roorkee

For every scientific breakthrough that changes the way we understand the world, there are years—sometimes decades—of patient research behind the scenes. Recognising such sustained excellence is the purpose of one of India’s most prestigious honours for researchers, the J.C. Bose Grant, awarded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).Adding another milestone to its research legacy, IIT Roorkee has announced that Professor Sunil Bajpai has been selected for the coveted J.C. Bose Grant, which will support his research for the next five years. The institute described the recognition as a reflection of Professor Bajpai’s outstanding contributions to scientific research and his continued commitment to mentoring future researchers.

What is the J.C. Bose Grant?

Formerly known as the J.C. Bose Fellowship, the J.C. Bose Grant is among India’s highest recognitions for scientists, engineers and technologists. Named after pioneering Indian physicist Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, the grant honours researchers who have demonstrated exceptional scientific excellence and made sustained contributions to advancing knowledge in their respective fields.Beyond recognising past achievements, the grant also aims to encourage recipients to continue pursuing high-impact research while nurturing the next generation of scientists and innovators.Receiving the grant is widely regarded as a mark of national recognition for a researcher’s long-term academic contributions.

A recognition that reflects decades of research

Congratulating Professor Bajpai, IIT Roorkee said the honour reflects his exemplary research contributions and further strengthens the institute’s commitment to excellence in science, innovation and nation-building.The institute also expressed confidence that Professor Bajpai’s work will continue to contribute to impactful research and inspire young scholars pursuing careers in science and engineering.Over the years, IIT Roorkee has built a strong reputation for research across engineering, earth sciences, sustainable technologies and emerging interdisciplinary fields. Recognition of its faculty through prestigious national and international awards further reinforces the institute’s position among India’s leading research universities. As India continues to invest heavily in scientific research and innovation, honours such as the J.C. Bose Grant serve not only as recognition for individual excellence but also as an encouragement for researchers working to solve complex challenges with long-term societal impact.
