NEET UG counselling 2026 schedule expected soon; MCC to begin MBBS, BDS admission process

NEET UG counselling 2026 schedule expected soon; MCC to begin MBBS, BDS admission process
The Medical Counselling Committee is expected to publish the NEET UG Counselling 2026 timetable shortly, paving the way for undergraduate medical admissions. Qualified candidates will be able to register, submit their college preferences and participate in seat allotment rounds for 15% All India Quota seats. State counselling authorities will independently conduct admissions for the remaining state quota seats.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) anticipates the release of the NEET UG counselling schedule for 2026 soon on the official website, neet.nta.ac.in. These top medical candidates would like to become MBBS or BDS doctors in a government hospital or college, so they need an official admission letter. Besides the AIQ, 15% of total seats, the counselling will be done in government medical and dental colleges, deemed universities, central universities, ESIC medical colleges, AFMC, etc. The State authorities will take up separately the rest of the 85% State quota seats for counselling. We would expect candidates to register via the website, to pick and finalise their preference of colleges and courses, and to follow the seat allotment rounds, which will depend on a candidate’s rank category, availability of seats, and reservation norms.

CJP Jantar Mantar Protest Updates

Candidates allotted seats must report to their respective institutes within the set limit to confirm admission.Applicants have to register online, choose the colleges and courses they prefer, and then lock their choices. The seat allotment will be done based on their NEET UG 2026 rank, category, availability of seats, and reservation policies. Candidates who have been given a seat will get it only after they personally visit the respective institute within the time limit prescribed by the admission regulations as confirmation of their acceptance.

Counselling schedule awaited

It is understood that the MCC still has to issue the proper counseling calendar, but the MCC will probably publish the complete timetable pretty soon. Candidates are recommended to frequently check the official website for information on registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and reporting dates.

Seat matrix for NEET UG 2026

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has shared the MBBS seat matrix ahead of the medical counselling process for academic years 2026-27. As per the latest data, a total of 136,939 MBBS seats will be available all over the nation, out of which 63,296 are government and 73,643 are private college seats. It is a total rise in seats of about 1,022 from last year, providing medical students with more scope to get themselves enrolled in various medical colleges. The seat matrix also does not include the Institutes of National Importance (INIs) such as AIIMS, JIPMER, and PGIMER, which conduct admissions through their own separate method.

NEET UG counselling process

The MCC counselling process is mostly round-based seat allotment, with the addition of stray vacancy rounds if seats are still vacant.MCC counselling basically consists of what comes next:

  • The counselling fee online registration and payment
  • Filling the choices and locking of preferred colleges and courses
  • Allocation of the candidate to the seat per the NEET rank, reservation policy, and availability
  • Carrying out document verification and admission
  • Participation in follow-up rounds if a candidate is eligible

The candidates should keep all documents ready that are required for verification, for example, NEET UG 2026 scorecard, admit card, Class 10 and 12 certificates, proof of identity, category certificate (if applicable), passport-size photographs, etc.

Who can participate?

Those who have passed the NEET UG 2026 examination and satisfy the eligibility criteria that have been decided by MCC and the institutions that participate in the programme can expect to join the counselling process. Candidates’ admission will be based only on merit, reservation rules, availability of seats, and the candidates’ preferences they put forward while choosing their options.
