CLAT 2027 registration to begin today; check eligibility, application steps and key dates

CLAT 2027 registration: The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) will open the online registration window for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 today, August 3, 2026, at 10.00 am IST. Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by participating National Law Universities will be able to submit their applications through the official portal once the registration link is activated.The application process will continue until October 31, 2026. The CLAT 2027 examination is scheduled to be held on December 6, 2026, from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. The Consortium has confirmed that the examination pattern and syllabus remain unchanged for this admission cycle.CLAT 2027: Important dates

Steps to apply for CLAT 2027Step 1: Register: Create an account using a valid mobile number and email address.Step 2: Fill the application form: Enter personal, academic and contact details.Step 3: Select preferences: Choose preferred examination cities and indicate NLU preferences.Step 4: Upload documents: Upload a passport-sized photograph, signature and category certificates, if applicable.Step 5: Pay the application fee: Complete the online payment and submit the application form.Eligibility and examination patternCandidates applying for the undergraduate programme must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination with at least 45 per cent marks. The minimum qualifying marks are 40 per cent for SC and ST candidates. Students appearing for their qualifying examination in Spring 2027 are also eligible to apply.For the postgraduate programme, applicants must possess an LL.B. degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. The qualifying requirement for SC and ST candidates is 45 per cent.The offline examination will continue in the existing format, comprising comprehension-based multiple-choice questions. The undergraduate paper will cover English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques.Applicant numbers continue to riseThe number of candidates registering for CLAT has increased steadily over the past five years, reflecting growing competition for admission to participating National Law Universities.

Admissions will be conducted across 27 participating National Law Universities. The undergraduate programmes offer around 3,952 to 4,100 seats, while postgraduate admissions cover nearly 1,590 seats. Female candidates account for 57 per cent of the applicant pool, while undergraduate aspirants contribute more than 80 per cent of total registrations. With the overall selection rate remaining below 6 per cent, competition for seats is expected to remain intense.
