Telangana schools holiday: Students and teachers in Telangana may get a three-day holiday break in August as a weekend holiday coincides with the state’s major traditional festival, Bonalu. Schools and educational institutions are expected to remain closed from August 8 to August 10 if the state government approves the holiday for the day following the festival. The possible extended break will include the second Saturday holiday, the Sunday weekly holiday and a likely local holiday on Monday for Rangam celebrations. An official announcement regarding the August 10 holiday is still awaited from the Telangana government.Three-day holiday schedule The expected holiday sequence begins on August 8, which falls on the second Saturday of the month. Government and private schools generally observe the second Saturday as a holiday, along with government offices.August 9 is a Sunday and will also mark the celebration of Bonalu, one of Telangana’s major traditional festivals. The festival is celebrated widely across Hyderabad and neighbouring districts, with devotees participating in religious events and cultural programmes.August 10 is observed for Rangam, a traditional oracle prediction ceremony held after Bonalu. The ceremony is prominently conducted at the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple and other major temples. Schools and educational institutions will resume classes after the extended weekend as per their academic schedule.Students and families prepare for festival breakThe possibility of a long weekend has generated interest among students and parents across Telangana. Many families are expected to use the break to participate in Bonalu celebrations, visit relatives or make short travel plans. The final decision on the additional holiday will be confirmed after the Telangana government issues the official notification.
