WATCH: Gymnast Gabriel Langton suffers frightening head-first fall at CWG 2026; Team England thanks medical staff
England gymnast Gabriel Langton

A terrifying accident involving England gymnast Gabriel Langton cast a shadow over the men’s team gymnastics final at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with a video of the horrific head-first fall quickly spreading across social media. The 19-year-old suffered the sickening crash during his high bar routine in the final rotation at The Arena in Glasgow, prompting an immediate medical response and bringing competition to a halt.Langton missed his catch on the horizontal bar, falling from around three metres and landing heavily on his head and neck. The packed arena fell into stunned silence as nearly a dozen medical personnel rushed to his aid. After receiving lengthy treatment on the competition floor, Langton was carefully placed on a stretcher, fitted with a neck brace and taken away on a trolley to a standing ovation from spectators.

Team officials later confirmed he was conscious, moving his arms and legs, and speaking with doctors before being transported to hospital.

England regroup after traumatic incident as Canada end long wait

The frightening incident overshadowed an otherwise historic evening for Canada, who claimed their first Commonwealth Games men’s team gymnastics gold medal in 20 years.Led by all-around standout Felix Dolci, Canada finished with 241.400 points to end England’s dominance in the event, while England settled for silver with 238.200. Australia secured bronze after edging hosts Scotland in a closely fought battle.Langton, who had been drafted into England’s squad earlier this month to replace injured six-time Olympic medallist Max Whitlock, was unable to join his teammates on the podium following the accident. When competition resumed after the lengthy delay, England faced the difficult task of regaining focus.Luke Whitehouse, who was next to perform on the high bar, admitted the emotional challenge of continuing after witnessing his teammate’s fall.“When something like that happens, you’ve just got to forget about it and reset. I just had to focus on my routine one skill at a time,” Whitehouse said.He later praised the team’s resilience.“We regrouped, the coaches were fantastic and the boys who had to go up on high bar were incredible. The togetherness of the team really showed.”

Rivals unite in support for injured gymnast

The incident prompted an outpouring of support from competitors across the field.Canada’s Felix Dolci acknowledged the inherent dangers of gymnastics while paying tribute to England’s composure.“It’s terrible. It goes to show that gymnastics is a very difficult and dangerous sport. All our thoughts go to Gabriel and the team. England stayed focused, and that’s not easy after seeing something like that,” Dolci said.Scotland’s Hamish Carter echoed those sentiments, saying the team’s thoughts were firmly with Langton.“I’m just so happy that he’s alright. We’ve walked away with no medal, but I’m thinking of Gabe in this moment,” he said.Team England later issued a statement thanking the medical staff for their swift response.“We are grateful to the medical teams who responded immediately to provide assistance. Gabriel has been taken to hospital and we will share more information when it is available.”
