Over 4 lakh CBSE Class 12 students requested scanned answer books in 2026, Govt tells Rajya Sabha

Over 4 lakh CBSE Class 12 students requested scanned answer books in 2026, Govt tells Rajya Sabha
The Centre has informed the Rajya Sabha that nearly 4.04 lakh CBSE Class 12 students applied for scanned copies of their evaluated answer books following the 2026 board results. More than 1.68 lakh candidates also opted for verification or re-evaluation. To improve accessibility, CBSE lowered post-result service charges and offered refunds where re-evaluation resulted in higher marks.

A significant number of CBSE Class 12 students chose to review their evaluated answer books after the 2026 board results, reflecting a growing demand for transparency in the examination process. The Centre informed the Rajya Sabha that nearly one in four students who appeared for the Class 12 board examinations applied for scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets, while lakhs also sought verification or re-evaluation of their marks. The details were shared by Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary in a written reply to a question raised by Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav Mandadi.

Nearly 4 lakh students requested scanned answer books

According to the data placed before Parliament, around 17.69 lakh students appeared for the CBSE Class 12 board examinations in 2026.Out of these, nearly 4.04 lakh students—about 22.8 per cent of all candidates—applied to obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer books after the declaration of results. In addition, more than 1.68 lakh students, accounting for around 9.5 per cent of the total candidates, applied for verification of issues observed in their answer books and/or sought re-evaluation of their responses. The figures indicate that a considerable number of students opted to use the post-result facilities introduced by the board to better understand their evaluation and seek corrections wherever required.

CBSE reduced post-result fees to encourage access

Explaining the measures taken this year, Chaudhary said CBSE substantially reduced the charges for post-result services so that no student was deprived of the opportunity to review their answer sheets because of financial reasons. He informed the House that the board issued a notice on May 17, 2026, introducing a revised fee structure for these services.Under the new rates, students were charged:

  • Rs 100 for obtaining a scanned copy of an evaluated answer book.
  • Rs 100 for verification of issues observed in an answer book.
  • Rs 25 per question for re-evaluation.

The minister said the reduced fee structure was introduced to make the post-result process more student-friendly and accessible.

Re-evaluation fee refunded if marks increased

The government also highlighted another student-friendly measure introduced this year. Chaudhary stated that candidates whose marks increased after the re-evaluation process received a full refund of the re-evaluation fee.The move was aimed at ensuring that students were not financially burdened if an error in evaluation was identified and corrected.

Focus on transparency in the evaluation process

The large number of applications for scanned answer books suggests that students are increasingly making use of the transparency measures available after the declaration of board results.Providing access to evaluated answer sheets allows students to examine the marking process before deciding whether to seek verification or re-evaluation. The revised fee structure and refund policy were introduced as part of CBSE’s efforts to make these facilities more accessible and fair.

CBSE Class 12 examinations this year

The CBSE Class 12 board examinations for the 2026 academic session were conducted between February 17 and April 9. The board declared the results on May 13, after which students could apply for various post-result services, including obtaining scanned copies of answer books, verification of marks and re-evaluation. The data presented in Parliament highlights the extensive use of these facilities by students following the announcement of results.
