NEW DELHI: India’s boxing contingent produced a perfect five-in-five performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Wednesday, with Narender Berwal joining Ankush Yadav, Sakshi Choudhary, Arundhati Choudhary and Sachin Siwach in the semifinals after a memorable day in Glasgow. The five victories ensured that every Indian boxer who stepped into the ring on Wednesday progressed to the last four, taking India’s total number of semifinalists in boxing to nine. The achievement has already surpassed India’s Birmingham 2022 boxing medal tally, where the country had finished with seven medals — three gold, one silver and three bronze. With the nine semifinal berths, India are now assured of at least nine bronze medals in the Glasgow boxing competition.

Sakshi, Arundhati lead India’s winning start

The winning run began with Sakshi Choudhary, who delivered a dominant performance against Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers in the women’s 51kg quarterfinal.Sakshi controlled the bout from the opening bell, using her reach advantage and sharp combinations to keep Fryers at bay before securing a unanimous 5-0 victory.“Her strategy was to fight from close range and she kept clinching. Mine was to box from long range which is my forte,” Sakshi told PTI after the bout. The Irish boxer tried to unsettle Sakshi with aggressive attacks, but the Indian remained composed, maintaining distance and responding with cleaner punches.Next, Arundhati Choudhary faced a tougher challenge against New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson in the women’s 70kg quarterfinal. After a closely fought contest, Arundhati held her nerve to secure a 3-1 victory and a place in the semifinals.

Siwach, Ankush and Narender complete India’s perfect day

Former world youth champion Sachin Siwach continued India’s strong showing by overpowering Botswana’s Treasure Moremi in the men’s 60kg quarterfinal. The world No. 5 Indian produced a composed display, winning the bout 5-0 by unanimous decision after dominating all five judges’ scorecards. In the men’s 80kg quarterfinal, Ankush Yadav extended India’s winning streak with another commanding performance. The last year’s World Boxing Cup Finals silver medallist defeated Seychelles’ Jade Micock 5-0 to book his semifinal spot.Ankush’s speed, movement and superior combinations proved too much for his opponent, as he maintained control throughout the contest. The final Indian boxer to complete the five-in-five sweep was Narender Berwal, who battled past Samoa’s Michael Seko in a dramatic men’s 90+kg quarterfinal. In a contest filled with referee interventions and two point deductions against the Indian, Berwal showed resilience. He forced standing counts twice, including in the decisive final round, to edge Seko 3-2 on a split decision. With nine boxers now guaranteed medals, India have already created history in Glasgow.
