Want a career in chip design? Marvell’s $250 million India investment may create new semiconductor opportunities for engineering students

Want a career in chip design? Marvell’s $250 million India investment may create new semiconductor opportunities for engineering students
Marvell’s $250 million India expansion could open new opportunities for semiconductor students

For engineering students dreaming of careers in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and chip design, India’s growing role in the global technology sector could bring new opportunities. US-based semiconductor company Marvell Technology has announced plans to invest $250 million in India over the next three years, expanding its research and development capabilities, engineering workforce and infrastructure. The investment comes as Marvell marks 20 years of operations in India and plans to double its workforce in the country during the expansion period. The company’s move is expected to strengthen its engineering teams working on advanced semiconductor technologies used in AI, cloud computing and data infrastructure.

New semiconductor jobs and skills focus for young engineers

Marvell will expand its facilities in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, including the inauguration of a new office wing in Bengaluru. The company said its India teams will continue working on areas such as advanced chip design, high-speed connectivity solutions, software and firmware development, and silicon engineering. For students pursuing electronics, computer science and related engineering fields, the expansion highlights the increasing demand for specialised skills in semiconductor design, artificial intelligence hardware and next-generation computing technologies.Marvell’s India operations, established in Bengaluru in 2006, have grown into the company’s second-largest research and development centre globally. The company currently operates centres in Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad.

Semiconductor ecosystem gets a boost

Marvell India Vice President and Country Manager Navin Bishnoi said India has become an important engineering hub for the company.“India has become a strategic hub of engineering excellence for Marvell, playing a critical role in advancing the infrastructure technologies that power the world’s leading hyperscalers and cloud providers,” Bishnoi said. The company also plans to continue collaborations with universities, startups, industry bodies and government organisations to support the semiconductor ecosystem in India.

What it means for students

The expansion comes at a time when India is focusing on building domestic semiconductor capabilities and creating a stronger talent pipeline for the chip industry.Students interested in semiconductor careers are likely to see greater emphasis on skills such as chip architecture, semiconductor manufacturing processes, embedded systems, hardware design, AI accelerators and software-hardware integration. With global technology companies expanding their engineering presence in India, academic programmes, research opportunities and industry partnerships are expected to play a bigger role in preparing students for jobs in the semiconductor sector.(With inputs from IANS)
