India’s Chanambam Rishikanta Singh clinched the silver medal in the men’s 60kg weightlifting event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, handing the country its first silver medal and second overall podium finish of the Games. The 28-year-old from Manipur delivered a memorable performance by rewriting the Commonwealth Games record books in the snatch before finishing second in a fiercely contested final.
Rishikanta sets new CWG snatch record
Rishikanta made a stunning start by successfully lifting 121kg on his third and final snatch attempt, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the discipline. The effort briefly put him at the top of the standings alongside Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan, setting up an intense battle in the clean and jerk.

Heading into the second phase, both lifters were separated only by attempts, with the gold medal race hanging in the balance.
Gold Slips away in clean and jerk
Rishikanta opened the clean and jerk with a successful 143kg lift but was unable to improve his total after failing to clear 151kg on his final attempt. He finished the competition with a combined total of 264kg (121kg in snatch and 143kg in clean and jerk), which proved enough for the silver medal.The miss leaves Malaysia’s Aniq Kasdan in the lead with a total of 266kg (121+145), while Rishikanta remains second on 264kg (121+143). Kenya’s Mboya has moved into third with 260kg (115+145).
