IPL 2025: Abhishek Sharma Sets Huge Record as Sunrisers Hyderabad Crush Punjab Kings by 8 Wickets

Abhishek Sharma played one of the most memorable innings in IPL history as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 8 wickets in a high-scoring match at Hyderabad on Saturday.

Chasing a huge target of 246 runs, SRH made it look easy thanks to Abhishek’s incredible 141 runs off just 55 balls. His fiery knock included 14 fours and 10 sixes. With this performance, Abhishek broke a major IPL record — he now holds the highest individual score by an Indian player in IPL history, going past KL Rahul’s unbeaten 132.

Punjab Kings Post a Huge Total

Earlier in the match, Punjab Kings batted first after winning the toss and put up a massive total of 245/6 in 20 overs. The star of their innings was Shreyas Iyer, who smashed 82 runs off just 36 balls. He hit 6 fours and 6 sixes, attacking the bowlers right from the start.

Towards the end of the innings, it was Marcus Stoinis who gave PBKS a strong finish. In the final over bowled by Mohammed Shami, Stoinis hit four consecutive sixes to push the total close to 250. His powerful hitting in the death overs gave Punjab a huge boost and had fans thinking SRH would struggle to chase such a big target.

Abhishek and Head Give SRH a Dream Start

However, SRH came out to chase the target with full confidence. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave their team a fantastic start. They scored runs quickly, attacking the bowlers from the very first over.

Travis Head played a solid knock of 66 off 37 balls, hitting the ball all around the park before getting out. But it was Abhishek who stole the show. He kept going even after Head’s dismissal and guided the team comfortably toward the target.

Abhishek batted with power and style, hitting boundaries at will and putting pressure on the PBKS bowlers. His ability to find the gaps and clear the ropes with ease made the chase look much simpler than it actually was.

A Historic Innings

With this knock of 141 runs, Abhishek not only helped SRH win the game but also entered the record books. His score is now the highest by an Indian batter in IPL history, beating KL Rahul’s 132 not out that he made in 2020.

Abhishek’s innings was full of confidence and showed how much he has grown as a player. Fans and cricket experts praised him for his fearless approach and clean hitting. It was truly a night to remember for both Abhishek and the SRH team.

SRH’s Strong Chase Seals the Win

Thanks to the fast start and Abhishek’s brilliant knock, SRH chased down the big total with ease. They won the match by 8 wickets, with balls to spare, which is impressive considering they were chasing 246 runs.

This win also gave SRH an important boost in the IPL 2025 points table, while PBKS will now have to bounce back quickly in their upcoming matches.

This match will be remembered for its explosive batting from both sides, but especially for Abhishek Sharma’s record-breaking performance. His fearless strokeplay and ability to take control of the game showed why he is one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket today.

As the IPL 2025 season continues, fans will be eagerly waiting to see what Abhishek does next — and whether anyone can break the record he just set.
