Thousands of children have secured an opportunity to study in private schools across the national capital after the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) announced the results of the second computerised draw for admissions under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Disadvantaged Group (DG), and Children with Special Needs (CWSN) categories.A total of 8,976 students have been selected for admission to entry-level classes in private unaided recognised schools for the 2026-27 academic session. The draw was conducted on Friday as part of the government’s effort to fill seats reserved for eligible children through a transparent and computer-based process.
Nearly 9,000 students selected across Nursery, KG and Class 1
According to the Directorate of Education, students have been selected across nursery, kindergarten (KG), and Class 1 under the reserved categories.In case of nursery admissions, students must be between three and five years old as on March 31, 2026.Children who wish to get admitted in Kindergarten (KG) must be four to six years old and students who want to join Class 1 must be five to seven years old.Students must comply with the age requirements prescribed to qualify for admissions.
Disability certificate is mandatory for admissions under CWSN Category
Applicants who wish to get admission under the category of children with special needs must present the disability certificate, which must have been issued by any government hospital. The disability certificate must be issued as per the guidelines of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Computerised draw conducted to ensure transparency
The Directorate of Education said the second computerised draw was conducted to ensure a fair, transparent, and unbiased allocation of seats reserved for children belonging to the EWS, DG, and CWSN categories.The computer-based selection process is designed to eliminate manual intervention and provide equal opportunities to eligible applicants seeking admission under the reservation policy.The exercise forms a key part of Delhi’s annual admission process for economically weaker families, disadvantaged groups, and children with special needs.
Admissions cover Entry-Level Classes
The admission process applies to entry-level classes, including:
- Pre-school (Nursery)
- Pre-primary (Kindergarten)
- Class 1
These admissions are being carried out for the 2026-27 academic session under the reserved categories notified by the Delhi government.
Age criteria for EWS and DG applicants
Age requirements have been specified by the Directorate of Education for children belonging to EWS and DG categories.For admission to nursery classes, children are expected to be between three to five years old as on March 31, 2026.Children aspiring for admission to KG category should be between four to six years old, while those who wish to get admitted to Class 1 should be between five to seven years of age. It is necessary that children meet the stipulated age requirements to become eligible for admission.
Disability certificate mandatory for CWSN admissions
Applicants seeking admission under the Children with Special Needs (CWSN) category must submit a valid disability certificate issued by a government hospital.The certificate should be issued in accordance with the assessment guidelines prescribed under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The document is mandatory for verification during the admission process.

The second computerised draw marks another significant step in Delhi’s admission process for reserved seats in private schools. Through the adoption of a lottery system digitally, the Directorate of Education hopes to conduct the process of admissions in a fair manner and increase the prospects of education for children belonging to poorer economic backgrounds and children with disabilities.The chosen applicants are now expected to go through the remaining processes of admission as per the guidelines laid out by the Directorate of Education.
