NEW DELHI: The United Doctors Front (UDF) has submitted a representation to the President of India and the Prime Minister seeking the replacement of the National Testing Agency (NTA) with an independent statutory National Examination Authority constituted through an Act of Parliament. The organisation said the proposal reiterates recommendations it had earlier submitted before the Parliamentary Standing Committee and issues raised in its pending Public Interest Litigation before the Supreme Court.The representation, dated July 21, 2026, has also been marked to the Union Ministers of Health and Family Welfare and Education, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Secretaries of the Health and Education ministries, and the Commissioner of Police, Delhi. UDF stated that the request is independent of any political party or protest group and is centred on strengthening India’s examination system and protecting the interests of students.Representation seeks structural examination reformsIn its memorandum, UDF said confidence in the integrity of national medical entrance examinations is essential for the country’s medical education system. It stated that prolonged uncertainty surrounding examination processes affects medical aspirants and public confidence in the framework governing medical education.The organisation said it had previously submitted recommendations on examination reforms before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports. It also referred to its pending Public Interest Litigation before the Supreme Court seeking comprehensive structural reforms, including the dissolution of the existing NTA and the creation of an independent statutory authority through parliamentary legislation.Five key requests placed before the governmentThe representation asks the Government of India to consider replacing the NTA with a statutory National Examination Authority to ensure parliamentary oversight, institutional accountability and transparency.It also seeks protection for healthcare professionals, medical students, ambulance personnel and medical volunteers providing emergency assistance during public gatherings. UDF has called for meaningful and time-bound dialogue with representatives of NEET aspirants, examination of complaints in accordance with established legal procedures, and comprehensive institutional reforms aimed at restoring transparency, accountability and public confidence in national entrance examinations.Appeal for dialogue and medical neutralityThe organisation said the representation is guided by humanitarian concerns and public interest. While recognising the constitutional right to peaceful protest, it appealed to students, authorities and law enforcement agencies to exercise restraint and resolve concerns through dialogue and constitutional mechanisms.UDF further emphasised that the principle of medical neutrality should be respected, allowing doctors, medical students, ambulance personnel and medical volunteers to perform emergency duties without obstruction. The organisation stated that its representation is intended to strengthen the examination system while safeguarding students’ interests and the medical profession.
