Gujarat University allots 37,894 UG seats for 2026-27; Commerce remains students' top preference
Gujarat University has completed the allotment of 37,894 undergraduate seats for the 2026-27 academic session, with commerce and arts emerging as the most preferred streams among aspirants. According to TNN, professional and integrated courses also witnessed encouraging demand, while the university will continue the admission process through additional allotment rounds to fill vacant seats.

Gujarat University (GU) has allotted 37,894 undergraduate seats for the 2026-27 academic session, with commerce emerging as the most preferred stream among students, according to the latest admission data released by the university on Friday.According to TNN, the admission process is still underway, and additional allotment rounds may be held to fill the remaining vacant seats.

Commerce and Arts continue to lead undergraduate admissions

The latest allotment data shows that commerce accounted for the highest number of admissions with 19,799 seats, making it the most sought-after undergraduate stream at Gujarat University this year. The arts stream followed with 10,264 allotted seats, reflecting sustained demand for conventional degree programmes. Meanwhile, science courses recorded 2,540 admissions, maintaining a steady presence in the university’s undergraduate intake. The figures suggest that while students continue to favour established academic disciplines, their course choices are increasingly being influenced by career opportunities and industry demand.

Professional courses witness strong student interest

Professional undergraduate programmes also attracted a sizeable number of applicants during the current admission cycle.According to TNN, the university allotted 1,736 seats in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and 1,128 seats in the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). These courses continue to draw students seeking industry-oriented education and better employment prospects after graduation. The growing preference for management and computer application programmes reflects the increasing focus on skill-based education and job-ready qualifications.

Integrated programmes gain momentum

Integrated courses also witnessed encouraging participation during the ongoing admission process. The university allotted 1,730 seats across various integrated programmes, while the integrated LLB course recorded 281 admissions. In addition, 416 seats were allotted in the Bachelor of Science programme, according to the latest data. The steady response to integrated programmes indicates that many students are opting for academic pathways that combine undergraduate and advanced studies within a single framework.

Admission process still underway

According to TNN, Gujarat University officials said the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session has not yet concluded. Further rounds of seat allotment may be conducted to fill vacancies across various undergraduate programmes and affiliated colleges. The final admission figures are expected to change as students confirm their admissions and vacant seats are filled through the remaining counselling rounds. The ongoing process is likely to provide another opportunity for candidates who are yet to secure admission in their preferred course.
