Bharatanatyam production on Pandharpur Wari to support girls’ education
Bala Devi Chandrashekar’s ‘Mauli – A Timeless Tradition’ to blend classical dance with CSR cause in Pune

PUNE: FUEL (Friends Union for Energising Lives) Education Institution will present “Mauli – A Timeless Tradition”, a Bharatanatyam production inspired by the spiritual essence of the Pandharpur Wari, on July 12 at the MES Auditorium in Kothrud. The event will also raise funds to support the education of 10 girl students through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The 75 minute production will be performed by internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam exponent, choreographer and researcher Bala Devi Chandrashekar.Announcing the programme on Wednesday, FUEL founder and chairman Dr Ketan Deshpande said the production celebrates the enduring connection between devotion, tradition and classical art while offering audiences a glimpse into the spiritual journey of the Warkari tradition.Bala Devi Chandrashekar said the production portrays the lives and devotional compositions of Warkari saints including Sant Dnyaneshwar, Sant Namdev, Sant Eknath, Sant Tukaram and Sant Janabai. “The Wari is not merely a pilgrimage but an inward spiritual journey culminating in personal transformation. Through Bharatanatyam, we have attempted to bring alive this timeless tradition,” she said. The performance will feature well-known abhangs and bharuds such as Sundar Te Dhyan, Roop Paahata Lochani and Khel Mandiyela Valavanti Ghai.Organisers said the initiative combines cultural heritage with social responsibility by using the programme to support the educational aspirations of underprivileged girls.
