Fresh off their FIFA World Cup 2026 triumph, Spain’s national football team has returned home to a hero’s welcome, with celebrations set to take over the streets of Madrid. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Monday that the World Cup-winning squad had landed in the Spanish capital, while the players shared their excitement about celebrating the historic achievement with supporters. In a post on X, the team wrote:“Yes, yes, yes! The World Cup is finally here. The Spain squad has landed in Madrid… and we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!”To mark the occasion, Spain announced a public victory celebration titled “Reverse of the World”, which will take place on July 20 at the Cibeles Communications Palace in Madrid. The festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM local time, with supporters able to attend free of charge until the venue reaches capacity.

Spain end 16-year wait for World Cup glory

Spain secured their second FIFA World Cup title by defeating Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium, claiming their first world crown since 2010.Substitute Ferran Torres proved to be the match-winner, scoring in the 106th minute after connecting with a loose ball inside the penalty area following a cross from Pedro Porro and an assist from Nico Williams. La Roja dominated the contest throughout, enjoying 68% possession while firing 20 shots, including 11 on target, compared to Argentina’s four attempts. Lionel Scaloni’s side struggled to create meaningful opportunities and did not register a shot on target until the closing stages of extra time.Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez kept Argentina in the contest with a remarkable 11 saves, the most ever recorded in a FIFA World Cup final, but even his heroics were not enough to deny Spain. Argentina’s task became even more difficult when Enzo Fernández was sent off early in extra time after receiving a second yellow card. Despite a late opportunity falling to Giuliano Simeone, the defending champions were unable to force penalties as Spain sealed a memorable victory.
