NEW DELHI: Neeraj Chopra’s coach Jaiveer Chaudhary’s name is missing from the final Indian contingent list for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as the squad received administrative and financial approval from the sports ministry, TOI has learnt. The omission means Chopra is likely to compete without his coach at the Games, scheduled from July 23-Aug 2. If Chaudhary travels, he will do so in a personal capacity at Chopra’s expense and stay outside the designated team hotel.Chopra reunited with Chaudhary, his childhood coach, in Jan 2026 after ending his association with world-record holder Jan Zelezny. Chopra’s long-time physiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha has been included in the govt-approved contingent. The 42-member athletics contingent comprises 32 athletes, eight coaches and support staff, and two Extra Team Officials (ETOs). Chopra had initially been uncertain for the Games because of injury concerns. Also omitted from the approved list is long jumper M Sreeshankar’s coach and father, S Murali, a former international triple jumper who has guided the national record-holder throughout his career. If he travels to Glasgow, Murali too will do so privately at his own expense. In boxing, the ministry cleared the inclusion of Jadumani Singh in the men’s 55kg category after initially seeking clarification from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) over his selection for the CWG and Asian Games.Jadumani, who won the selection trials in Patiala, will now travel with the team. Meanwhile, men’s 70kg boxer Sumit Kundu is awaiting a visa for his coach Ved Prakash, with assistance sought from the UK High Commission. The ministry approved a 191-member contingent comprising 126 athletes (78 men and 48 women), 56 team officials/support staff/managers and nine ETOs, besides 14 IOA contingent staff led by chef-de-mission Rohit Rajpal. The nine ETOs will stay outside the designated team hotels, with their accommodation costs to be borne by the IOA. The ministry also clarified it will not bear the expenses of elected members of the IOA executive committee.
