Jos Buttler scripts history, overtakes MS Dhoni to become...

Jos Buttler etched his name into the record books on Saturday, overtaking MS Dhoni to become the wicketkeeper with the most sixes in international cricket. The England batter achieved the milestone during his sensational 131 off 64 balls against India in the fifth T20I at the Rose Bowl. Buttler smashed eight sixes in his innings, taking his career tally to 366 international sixes and moving past Dhoni‘s long-standing mark of 359. The 35-year-old reached the landmark in style as he rolled back the years with one of the finest knocks of his T20I career, helping England crush India by 56 runs and complete a historic 4-0 clean sweep in the five-match series. Buttler’s innings, which featured 12 fours and eight sixes, was his second T20I century and the highest score of his international T20 career. He accelerated brilliantly after reaching his half-century in 34 balls, requiring only another 17 deliveries to bring up his hundred. His breathtaking stand with captain Harry Brook proved decisive. The pair added 233 runs for the second wicket, setting a new record for the highest partnership for any wicket in men’s T20I history. Brook narrowly missed a century, finishing unbeaten on 95 from just 45 balls as England piled up 257 for 3. India’s reply never seriously threatened the target despite half-centuries from Ishan Kishan (56) and Tilak Varma (53). The visitors finished on 201 for 8 as England sealed a comprehensive victory. Buttler’s eight sixes were matched by Brook, with the duo combining for 16 maximums between them. India, by comparison, managed only eight sixes as a team. The latest milestone adds another chapter to Buttler’s decorated international career, underlining his reputation as one of the most destructive wicketkeeper-batters the game has seen.

Most international sixes by wicketkeepers

Rank Player International sixes
1 Jos Buttler (England) 366
2 MS Dhoni (India) 359
3 Quinton de Kock (South Africa) 300
4 Adam Gilchrist (Australia) 259
5 Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) 208
