India vs England 1st ODI Live Score: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli return as India begin ODI World Cup preparations

India vs England 1st ODI Live Score: India will kick off their preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup when they take on England in the first match of the three-match series at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday.

After a disappointing T20I campaign, the focus now shifts to the 50-over format, with the return of several senior players expected to strengthen the visitors.

The biggest boost for India is the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, three of the team’s most experienced players in ODIs.

Their comeback gives captain Shubman Gill a near full-strength squad as India begin building combinations for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.

Rohit and Gill are expected to open the innings once again. The pair have averaged 60.9 together in ODIs and will look to provide India with solid starts.

Gill heads into the series in outstanding form. He has scored 373 runs in five ODI innings this year at an average of 93.3 and a strike rate of 117, including one century and three fifties.

Virat Kohli also returns with major milestones within reach.

The first ODI at Edgbaston will mark his 300th ODI innings, while another good series could see him cross 15,000 ODI runs.

The former India captain has also been in exceptional form in the format, averaging 123 across his last seven ODI innings since the start of 2025.

KL Rahul, who scored 139 runs against Afghanistan in India’s previous ODI series, is expected to keep wickets while batting in the middle order. Shreyas Iyer is set to return to his preferred No. 4 position.

England: Harry Brook (c), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler (wk), James Coles, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Josh Tongue.
