New Delhi: In a significant relief for commercial consumers, the Central Government has announced the restoration of commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies to their normal, pre-crisis levels. The decision comes after a review of the temporary restrictions that were introduced during the recent geopolitical tensions in West Asia to safeguard domestic energy availability.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has informed all State Governments and Union Territories that the emergency restrictions on non-domestic LPG cylinders have now been withdrawn. The move is expected to benefit hotels, restaurants, small businesses, catering services, and other commercial establishments that rely heavily on LPG for daily operations.

Commercial LPG Distribution Returns to Normal

According to the latest directive issued by Petroleum Secretary Dr. Neeraj Mittal, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have been instructed to resume commercial LPG supplies at the levels that existed before the West Asia crisis. This marks the end of the temporary supply control measures that were introduced as a precautionary step.

The Ministry has also allowed bulk LPG supplies to be increased up to 50 percent of the consumption levels recorded before the restrictions were imposed.

Industries Encouraged to Shift Towards PNG

While commercial LPG supplies have been restored, the government has reiterated its long-term strategy of encouraging industries and commercial establishments to adopt Piped Natural Gas (PNG) wherever infrastructure is available.

Businesses that have already switched to PNG will continue using the cleaner fuel, while those with access to existing city gas distribution networks are expected to transition permanently. Oil Marketing Companies will coordinate with City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities to facilitate this migration.

Unified Database to Continue

The Ministry has instructed all Oil Marketing Companies to continue maintaining a comprehensive database of commercial and industrial LPG consumers. A unified sector-wise database covering all three major OMCs will help improve monitoring, supply planning, and fuel distribution efficiency across the country.

The restoration of commercial LPG supplies is expected to ease fuel availability concerns for businesses that experienced disruptions during the crisis period. The government’s decision is likely to stabilize operations across the hospitality, food service, manufacturing, and other commercial sectors that depend on LPG for uninterrupted business activities.
