BPSC TRE-4 announced: 32,388 teacher posts up for grabs amid protests over recruitment delays
BPSC opens recruitment for 32,388 school teacher posts; applications from September 1

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced the fourth phase of its Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4), opening the way for recruitment to 32,388 teaching posts across the state. Applications for the recruitment drive will begin on September 1.The notification came on August 18, even as teacher aspirants were protesting in Patna over the delay in announcing the recruitment schedule and raising concerns about the examination pattern, vacancies, and recruitment rules.

TRE-4 notification comes amid protests

The latest recruitment announcement came within hours of a demonstration at Gardanibagh in Patna, where aspirants had demanded that the TRE-4 schedule be released without further delay. The issue has remained contentious for several months. Teacher aspirants had staged protests earlier this year as well, expressing frustration over delays in the recruitment process and unresolved issues from previous phases. On Tuesday, the agitation received political support. RJD leader and Bihar Assembly Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav told the protesters that the opposition stood with them. CPI (ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya also backed the candidates, arguing that recruitment-related grievances should be addressed through dialogue rather than being treated merely as law-and-order issues. The latest notification provides a formal start to TRE-4, but several concerns raised by aspirants remain.

From TRE-1 to TRE-4: A recruitment process marked by delays

Bihar’s new teacher recruitment system began in 2023 with TRE-1. The first examination was notified for 1,70,461 posts and held from August 24 to 26, 2023.The recruitment model itself triggered protests after Bihar removed the earlier domicile restriction and allowed candidates from across India to apply. Local aspirants raised concerns over the impact of the decision on employment opportunities for Bihar residents.TRE-2 followed in November 2023, with more than 1.2 lakh posts advertised. The examination was held from December 7 to 16. However, the process later faced questions over unfilled vacancies and supplementary results. The third phase, TRE-3, brought another major setback. Although 87,774 vacancies were announced, the March 15, 2024 examination was cancelled after evidence of a question-paper leak emerged. The test was subsequently reconducted from July 19 to 22.Candidates later continued to demand a supplementary result for vacant posts, leading to repeated protests in Patna.

Why TRE-4 matters to aspirants

For candidates, the latest recruitment drive is not simply about 32,388 vacancies. It is also about whether the entire process can be completed without the delays and controversies that affected earlier phases.Aspirants have raised demands concerning a single-tier examination, changes to the proposed examination pattern, and the domicile policy. Candidates nearing the upper age limit are particularly concerned about prolonged delays, as every recruitment cycle lost can affect their eligibility. The developments also come amid recruitment-related protests in neighbouring Jharkhand, where students have demanded action over alleged examination irregularities and reforms in the state’s recruitment system. With applications for TRE-4 set to open on September 1, the focus will now shift to the examination schedule and subsequent stages. For Bihar’s teacher aspirants, the latest notification offers a fresh opportunity, but its success will ultimately depend on whether the recruitment moves smoothly from application to examination, results, and appointment.
