When will UGC NET 2026 provisional answer key be released? Here’s what we know so far

When will UGC NET 2026 provisional answer key be released? Here's what we know so far
New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) NTA is expected to publish answer keys soon on the official website

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the provisional answer key for the UGC NET June 2026 examination shortly. The agency had said on August 10 that the provisional answer keys for UGC NET June 2026, CSIR-NET and ICAR AIEEA (PG) and AICE (PhD) 2026 would be issued during the week. However, the UGC NET answer key has not yet been published. The answer key is expected to be released on August 17, 2026 or by the end of next week.

UGC NET June 2026 answer key: Where to check

Candidates who appeared for the UGC NET June 2026 examination will be able to access the provisional answer key online through the official UGC NET website, ugcnet.nta.nic.in. NTA is also expected to publish details about the objection process along with the answer key.The provisional answer key will allow candidates to compare the answers recorded during the examination with NTA’s official responses. If a candidate believes that an answer is incorrect, they will be able to challenge it within the stipulated objection window.

Objection window likely to open with answer key

NTA is expected to announce the dates, procedure and fee for submitting challenges when it releases the provisional answer key. Candidates will have to follow the prescribed process and submit supporting evidence, wherever required, within the specified deadline. The agency will examine the objections before preparing the final answer key. The final key will form the basis for the subsequent result process.

UGC NET exam was held from June 22 to 30

The UGC NET June 2026 examination was conducted between June 22 and June 30 in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The examination determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor positions and is also used for admission to PhD programmes in eligible higher education institutions. The answer key is therefore an important stage for thousands of candidates waiting to assess their performance and understand their prospects for the next stage of their academic or research careers.

Delay raises concerns among aspirants

The wait for the provisional answer key has increasingly become a concern among candidates. Several student organisations have urged NTA and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to expedite the release of the answer key, response sheets and results. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) has also written to the UGC and NTA, seeking the release of the pending examination documents and results without further delay.

PhD admissions affected by pending NET results

The delay has become particularly significant for candidates seeking admission to PhD programmes for the 2026-27 academic session. Universities have begun, or are expected to begin, their doctoral admission processes, leaving some UGC NET candidates uncertain about their eligibility. For candidates targeting PhD admissions through UGC NET or seeking the benefits attached to JRF qualification, a prolonged delay could affect their admission plans. Some aspirants have reportedly started exploring private universities and other alternatives to avoid losing an academic year.

Candidates advised to monitor official websites

NTA has not yet provided a confirmed date for the release of the UGC NET June 2026 provisional answer key. Candidates should therefore rely only on official announcements and regularly check the NTA and UGC NET websites for updates.Once the provisional key is released, candidates should download it promptly, check their responses and note the deadline for raising objections. The final answer key and result will follow the completion of the objection process.
