The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has postponed the registration date for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. The registration process, which was earlier scheduled to begin on August 14, will now start on August 27, 2026.Candidates who wish to appear for GATE 2027 will be able to apply through the official website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.As per the revised schedule, the last date to submit the application form without a late fee is September 27, 2026. The extended registration window with a late fee will remain open till October 5, 2026.

GATE 2027 revised schedule

Candidates can check the important dates below:

  • Registration begins: August 27, 2026
  • Last date without late fee: September 27, 2026
  • Last date with late fee: October 5, 2026
  • Application correction window: October 14 to October 21, 2026
  • Exam city allotment list: January 4, 2027
  • GATE 2027 exam dates: February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027

The examination will be conducted in both forenoon and afternoon sessions on all six exam dates.

GATE 2027 exam details

GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 test papers. Candidates can appear for either one paper or a maximum of two papers, subject to the available two-paper combinations.The Robotics and Automation paper will have two parts. Part A will be the common section, while Part B will be divided into two sections covering Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.Candidates should submit only one application form. Those who want to appear for a second paper can add it to their original application.If a candidate submits more than one application, only one application will be accepted. The remaining applications will be rejected and the application fee paid for them will not be refunded.

GATE 2027 application fee

The application fee can be paid online. Candidates can check the fee details below:

Other candidates ₹2,000 ₹2,500

How to apply for GATE 2027

Candidates can follow these steps to register:

  1. Visit the official GATE 2027 website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
  2. Click on the GATE 2027 registration link available on the homepage.
  3. Enter the required registration details on the new page.
  4. Submit the details and log in.
  5. Fill out the application form and pay the required fee.
  6. Submit the application form.
  7. Download and save a copy of the submitted form for future reference.
