AICTE-Mitacs GRI 2027: Indian students can now apply for fully funded Canada research internship
AICTE launches applications for Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2027; 300 Indian students to get fully funded Canada internships

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has opened the application process for the AICTE-Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) 2027, offering eligible Indian undergraduate students an opportunity to undertake a fully funded, 12-week research internship at participating universities in Canada.Eligible students can submit their applications until September 16, 2026. Mitacs has made it clear that applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Students interested in the programme can access the application process through the official AICTE website.

Up to 300 Indian students to benefit annually

The internship has been launched under the AICTE-Mitacs partnership, aimed at giving Indian students greater access to international research and academic opportunities.Under the programme, up to 300 eligible Indian undergraduate students will receive fully funded research internships every year. The initiative is planned for a period of three years, beginning in 2027.The programme will place selected students at participating Canadian academic institutions, where they will work under the supervision and guidance of faculty members.

12-week internship to be held between May and October 2027

The Globalink Research Internship will be conducted in person for 12 consecutive weeks between May and October 2027.The programme is designed to give students exposure beyond classroom-based learning. Participants will get an opportunity to work in research environments, gain laboratory experience where applicable and interact with researchers and faculty members in Canada. The internship will also expose students to international mentorship and multicultural academic settings. The programme is expected to help participants develop research skills, professional networks and a better understanding of global academic practices.

Multiple research disciplines covered

The AICTE-Mitacs GRI 2027 programme covers a broad range of academic and research areas. These include:

  • Science
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Computer Science
  • Life Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Business
  • Arts
  • Humanities

This wide disciplinary coverage allows undergraduate students from different academic backgrounds to explore research opportunities aligned with their areas of study.

AICTE-Mitacs GRI 2027: Check eligibility criteria

Students who are studying in an institution that has received the approval from AICTE can opt for the internship if they meet the specified eligibility criteria. The applicants should:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate course in an institution that has received the approval from AICTE.
  • Have completed two years of the undergraduate course or they should be in the second year when applying.
  • Meet the specified criteria for eligibility for the internship.

The students are required to check the specified criteria before applying since meeting only the basic academic criteria may not be enough because they are required to fulfill the specified criteria under the GRI program.

Pre-departure support for selected candidates

Shortlisted students will receive pre-departure assistance and orientation before travelling to Canada for the internship. The support is intended to help selected candidates prepare for their international research experience and understand the requirements associated with participating in the programme.

Application deadline is September 16

The AICTE-Mitacs GRI 2027 application window will remain open until September 16, 2026. Students who are interested in applying should complete the process well before the deadline, as applications submitted after the closing date will not be accepted. The initiative provides Indian undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain first-hand international research exposure at a relatively early stage of their academic careers. With up to 300 students expected to receive funded internships annually, the programme could also provide a significant pathway for students looking to build research experience and explore higher studies or careers involving global academic collaboration.Students should check the latest application instructions, eligibility requirements and other programme-related details on the official AICTE and Mitacs platforms before applying.
