Pakistan all-rounder Hamza Nazar banned for two years over misleading visa information

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended all-rounder Hamza Nazar from all forms of cricket for two years and fined him Rs 1 million after finding that he provided misleading information while applying for a visa through the board. The decision was announced on Thursday following an internal inquiry.Hamza had recently emerged as one of the promising performers in Pakistan’s domestic circuit. He was reportedly in contention for Pakistan’s recent two-Test tour of the West Indies, but the visa-related issue ruled him out of selection.According to the PCB, the inquiry found that Hamza did not provide complete and accurate information during the visa application process. The board said he had submitted misleading details and failed to disclose important facts.A three-member inquiry committee was formed to investigate the matter. Hamza was given an opportunity to explain his side before the committee reviewed the evidence and submitted its report.

PCB issues strict warning

After reviewing the committee’s findings, the PCB imposed a two-year suspension from both domestic and international cricket along with a Rs 1 million fine. The board said such actions damage the values expected from those representing Pakistan cricket.“The PCB takes matters involving misrepresentation, non-disclosure and the submission of misleading information extremely seriously,” PCB said.“Such conduct was inconsistent with the standards of honesty, professionalism and responsibility expected from individuals associated with Pakistan cricket,” it said. The PCB also made it clear that it would not tolerate any action that harms its image.“The PCB will not allow any individual to tarnish the reputation of the board, Pakistan cricket or the millions of supporters who follow the game.”
