'It was written': Pedri's cryptic 13-month-old post goes viral after Spain's FIFA World Cup triumph

Spain midfielder Pedri celebrated his country’s FIFA World Cup 2026 triumph with a remarkable callback to a mysterious social media post he shared more than a year earlier, leaving fans convinced he had predicted the historic moment long before it happened.

Shortly after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the FIFA World Cup final, the Barcelona midfielder posted a photo of himself kissing the trophy on X with the message: “It was written! 1 9 0 7 2 6. The day when an entire country’s dream comes true. The day when we are WORLD CHAMPIONS.” The sequence “1 9 0 7 2 6” immediately caught attention because it referred to an unexplained Instagram post Pedri had shared on June 10, 2025. At the time, the numbers were posted without any context, but after Spain’s triumph, supporters interpreted them as July 19, 2026, the date of the World Cup final. Thirteen months after that cryptic post, the 23-year-old found himself celebrating exactly what many believe he had hinted at, as Spain overcame defending champions Argentina to secure only the second FIFA World Cup title in the country’s history. Pedri played a vital role throughout Spain’s victorious campaign under Luis de la Fuente. The midfielder featured in every match and was instrumental with his composure, creativity and control in the centre of the park as Spain marched to the title. The final at MetLife Stadium remained deadlocked after 90 minutes despite Spain enjoying the better of the play. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez kept his side in the contest with a series of outstanding saves, while the South Americans were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time when Enzo Fernandez received his second yellow card. Spain briefly thought they had broken the deadlock early in extra time when Nico Williams found the net, but the goal was ruled out following a foul in the build-up. The breakthrough eventually came in the 106th minute. Williams headed the ball into the path of Ferran Torres, who blasted his finish into the roof of the net to hand Spain a memorable 1-0 victory. The success ended Spain’s 16-year wait for a World Cup title, their previous triumph having come in 2010, and stretched Luis de la Fuente’s side’s unbeaten run to a European-record 38 international matches. For Pedri, the World Cup crown adds another major honour to an already impressive international career. After helping Spain lift the UEFA Euro 2024 title, the Barcelona star has now reached the pinnacle of world football, with his mysterious prediction from more than a year ago becoming one of the tournament’s most talked-about moments.
