'Your wishes mean the world to me': PV Sindhu's heartfelt message to PM Modi after Japan Open triumph

PV Sindhu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message after creating history by becoming the first Indian to win the Japan Open. The two-time Olympic medallist defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the women’s singles final to end a two-year wait for a BWF World Tour title and her seven-year drought for a Super 750 or higher crown.Responding to the Prime Minister’s message on X, Sindhu expressed her gratitude and recalled some of her favourite memories from their meetings after the Tokyo Olympics.“Thank you so much, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sir. Your wishes mean the world to me,” Sindhu wrote.“I will never forget sharing that ice cream with you after Tokyo, that brief conversation in your office, and the many occasions before and after when I had the privilege of meeting you and being inspired by you. Those are memories I will always cherish.”

Sindhu praises PM’s support for Indian sport

Sindhu also praised Prime Minister Modi’s dedication and work ethic, saying every meeting with him had been inspiring.“Every time I have met you, Sir, I have witnessed your incredible I have work ethic firsthand, always returning from one meeting, heading straight into another, often working late into the night. You truly embody what hard work, dedication, and service to the nation mean,” she wrote on X.She ended her message by thanking him for encouraging Indian athletes over the years.“Thank you for your unwavering support for Indian sport. Wishing you many, many years of good health and strength, Sir,” sheSindhu’s title-winning run in Tokyo included victories over Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei and world No. 5 Han Yue before she defeated four-time champion Yamaguchi in straight games to lift the prestigious Japan Open trophy.
