New Zealand bounced back in the five-match ODI series with a five-wicket win over West Indies in the second match on Monday. Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox starred with the ball, taking 5 for 19 as the visitors bowled out West Indies for just 138 before chasing down the target with 104 balls to spare. The victory was New Zealand’s 400th win in one-day internationals and leveled the series 1-1 after West Indies had won the opener by seven wickets.

Jayden Lennox triggers dramatic collapse

West Indies were in a strong position at 63 without loss, but Lennox turned the match around with a brilliant spell. The hosts lost all 10 wickets for just 65 runs to finish on 138.Playing only his seventh ODI after making his international debut at the age of 31, Lennox claimed his maiden five-wicket haul. His figures of 5 for 19 from eight overs were the third-best by a New Zealand spinner in ODI cricket.John Campbell top-scored with 43, while Akeem August made 18 during the opening stand. Amir Jangoo added 24, but no other batter could make a big impact as West Indies lost their last five wickets in just 10 overs.Mitchell Santner also struck at crucial moments, removing Keacy Carty for 18 with a sharply turning delivery. Lennox then dismissed captain Shai Hope for seven after the West Indies skipper had scored an unbeaten 87 in the first ODI.

Latham anchors tricky chase

New Zealand’s chase was far from easy on a pitch offering plenty of turn. The visitors slipped to 96 for 5 before Tom Latham steadied the innings with an unbeaten 37.Latham and Mark Bracewell, who remained not out on 18, shared an unbroken partnership to take New Zealand home.Henry Nicholls made 17 and Will Young scored 28 in a positive opening stand of 35. However, New Zealand suffered a setback when Young was dismissed and Mark Chapman was run out for a duck in quick succession.Nicholls departed with the score on 52 for 3 before Daryl Mitchell and Latham added 42 runs for the fourth wicket. Mitchell looked set to guide the chase but was stumped for 28 after charging spinner Khary Pierre. Pierre then bowled Dean Foxcroft to put New Zealand under pressure.Latham and Bracewell, who also crossed 1,000 ODI runs during his innings, ensured there were no further hiccups as New Zealand completed the chase comfortably. The third match of the five-match ODI series will be played in Guyana on Thursday, with both teams aiming to take a 2-1 lead.
